Amberley

The series Amberley was created in Amberley Village, West Sussex, England.

It depicts walls of 16th century cottage Kennards. The particular framing creates images alike that of modernist painters. This clear reference is an early attempt at linking various historical narratives, like one expressed in the neon ‘Looking for meaning in history’.

In a sense, what is presented, is an abstract modernist composition, although it soon becomes clear, it is neither abstract nor modernist, but an image of cultural heritage, which the modernists failed to erase despite many attempts to do so.
